4. Bill Mundy


Bill Mundy was born in Berkshire and painted his first portrait before his fifth birthday. After a spell in the Far East as a cartographer, he lived in Asia for nearly twenty years, becoming the court painter for the Johor Royal Family in Malaysia. He painted several portraits of the Sultan of Johor, including eight miniature portraits. In 1999 he was commissioned to paint an equestrian miniature for Her Majesty The Queen, and is the only living miniaturist to be represented at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

During his long career, Bill Mundy has met and painted many notable people including HRH Prince Philip, HRH Prince Charles, the King of Thailand, and Mother Teresa of Calcutta. He currently lives and paints in his riverside studio in Henley-on-Thames.

Major awards include: RA Summer Exhibition Exhibit of the Year (twice); RMS Gold Memorial Bowl; MASF Best in Show (twice); Hilliard Society Bell Award for Best Portrait (three times); MASF Best Portrait (twice); Llewellyn Alexander Award for Best in Show. Bill Mundy's art can be found in Royal, Public and Private collections throughout the world.
