David Haynes was born in Nantwich in 1942. He moved to Birmingham and followed his father into commercial art, by joining an advertising agency, then setting up an art studio for a printer before going freelance in 1978.
Originally trained as a lettering artist he has had a lifelong interest in medieval manuscripts and as a calligrapher produced an illuminated manuscript duly signed by a royal visitor to a client’s workplace. It was an interesting change from producing artwork for labels, packaging, brochures and exhibition work that comprised the bulk of his work, although 10yrs or so of producing cartoons for a couple of trade magazines was light relief but presented different challenges. As did the work done for his last client, Royal Worcester. An extraordinary way for an artist from the last generation to produce hand painted advertising art. Then he joined the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists…………
