Gillie Hoyte Byrom RMS HS BSOE CGE IPG
When Gillie watched a demonstration of enamel painting at a craft fair in her mid-twenties, she knew she had found her medium. With a basic enamelling kiln and minimal equipment she largely taught herself the necessary skills to get established as a painter, before choosing to specialise in enamel portrait miniatures which became her passion.
Gillie then took training in the making of enamel miniatures at the renowned Llotja school in Barcelona with Andreu Vilasis and Nuria Lopez Ribalta in 1990. She also took master classes with Marie Angeles Cera de Derch. She has made more than 500 portrait miniatures to date and mainly works to commission. Gillie’s miniatures are in private and public collections all over the world winning her many prizes, including the prestigious Jacques Cartier Memorial Award in 2007.
Gillie also has a Masters Degree in Special Educational Needs with experience in teaching individuals and small groups.
"I create hand-painted portrait miniatures in vitreous enamel following traditional 18th century techniques. My aim is to bring life to the likeness whilst presenting the subject's best features in a harmonious artistic composition."
